How many bosses are there?

S-GAME’s official line is more than 50 bosses across the journey — a mix of martial-artist duels, monsters, and set-piece encounters. The pre-release showcases gave a taste of the range: a lion-dance boss that breathes fire from its ceremonial head, and a drunken swordsman whose blade work weaves wine and killing intent.

How do boss fights work?

Bosses are phase-based, and the color language from the combat system applies at full intensity: blue techniques want a parry, red techniques demand a dodge, and dark techniques drain your Sha-Chi. Two rules make the fights learner-friendly:

  • Phase checkpoints. Die in a boss’s second phase and you restart at that phase — the game makes you practice the part that’s killing you, not the part you’ve already solved.
  • Generous respawns. You return to the last bell with enemies you’ve already beaten still dead, so the run back is short.

Executions and Power Surges still grant invulnerability, and an execution refills your Sha-Chi — spending your resources aggressively is usually correct, not reckless.

Which bosses matter most for completion?

Two optional bosses — Zhu Yuan and Bi Feng — are required alongside full side-quest completion for the true ending. They’re the bosses to prioritize before pushing the story past its point of no return, alongside every purple-icon side quest, since those expire.
